The EPA Thriving Communities Grant Program

The International Community Foundation (ICF) and its grant making partners are proud to announce the launch of award applications for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Thriving Communities Grant Program, which will invest $48 million in grants into disadvantaged communities working on environmental and health-related issues.

ICF along with four other partner organizations will distribute $48 million in funding throughout EPA Region 9 to nonprofits, local governments, grassroots organizations, and Native, Indigenous, rural, border, and urban communities tackling challenges including unsafe housing, pollution, lack of access to clean water, reducing extreme heat, and more. EPA Region 9 includes California, Arizona, Hawaii, Nevada, Guam, American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands, and 148 Tribal Nations. ICF will be accepting applications from organizations in San Diego, Orange, and Imperial counties in California, and will conduct outreach to Spanish-speaking and U.S.-Mexico border communities throughout Region 9.

Eligible organizations can receive awards between $150,000 - $350,000 in funding to help communities access the resources they need to solve problems, build resilience for the future, and create healthier neighborhoods for everyone. Applications are reviewed as they come in on a rolling basis.

The EPA Thriving Communities Grant Program is a $600 million nationwide initiative from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, funded by the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, that aims to help organizations who are working to address critical environmental and health challenges that impact quality of life.

The submission portal for Region 9 Applications will open on January 15, 2025 and applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.
