MEET THE TEAM
Alana Ortez, MPA, Senior Program Officer, Health
Alana manages the International Community Foundation’s growing Health portfolio, with an emphasis on increasing access to health services and improving the quality of health services in order to raise health outcomes for underserved populations. A native of San Diego, Alana returned to the area in 2014 from Miami, Florida where she served for over 7 years as a Senior Program Officer in Planned Parenthood Global’s Latin America Regional Office. At Planned Parenthood she managed a grant portfolio benefitting local nonprofit organizations in Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Ecuador focused on reproductive health. From 2003-2005, Alana ran the international programs office at the Pan-American Agricultural University, Zamorano, in Honduras, and prior to that (2001-2003) she served as a municipal development volunteer in Peace Corps Honduras.
Alana is a graduate of New York University’s Wagner School of Public Service where she received a Master’s in Public Administration with an emphasis on management and policy and specializing in international development. Previously she earned her B.A. in Political Science and a minor in Hispanic Studies from Northwestern University.
Alana is passionate about health equity and bringing together multi-sectoral partnerships to develop innovative solutions for improving population health.
She is the proud mother of a joyful 4 1/2 year old and enjoys exploring San Diego’s diverse culinary scene and spending time with her extended family.
