The International Community Foundation Announces Marisa Aurora Quiroz as President and Chief Executive Officer.

NATIONAL CITY, CA., December 13, 2021 – After a 3-month international search, Marisa Aurora Quiroz has been selected to lead the International Community Foundation (ICF) as President and Chief Executive Officer. Her track record co-powering and strengthening communities and vulnerable natural habitats will lead ICF into its exciting future.

“Marisa brings experience, professionalism, relationships, empathy, and above all, passion for this great community foundation,” said Gustavo A. De La Fuente, ICF’s Board Chair. “I have no doubt that she will wisely guide our organization and rise to the occasion when new opportunities and challenges come our way. The board is looking forward to working hand in hand with Marisa on the next stage of our growth.”

As the President and Chief Executive Officer, Marisa will lead the continuing evolution of ICF’s innovative model and build on its bold history and track record of community impact. She will report to an internationally experienced Board of Governors and work collaboratively with a stellar team, globally active funders, and local program partners.

Marisa has served ICF in many roles. She previously served as the Vice President of Culture and Impact, overseeing a growing portfolio of programs and special initiatives. Prior to that role, she was Senior Program Officer for Environmental Conservation, leading ICF’s Environment portfolio, emphasizing marine and terrestrial conservation in México’s Baja California peninsula, coastal communities of the Gulf of California and the Caribbean. Marisa first joined ICF in 2015, after 7 years at The San Diego Foundation. There, she worked with regional leaders to advance conservation efforts that ensured community access to clean air, water, and nature, while promoting collaborative action on climate change. Her work at The San Diego Foundation led to the creation of the Parks for Everyone report and the Opening the Outdoors Initiative.

Marisa’s dedication to community action at the local, regional, and national levels is demonstrated by her many leadership roles. She is a co-founder of the San Diego Latina Giving Circle; she serves on the Advisory Board for the Nonprofit Institute at the University of San Diego and is the incoming Board Chair for the Environment Grantmakers Association. Marisa holds a master’s in Nonprofit Leadership and Management from the University of San Diego and a bachelor’s in Anthropology and Sociology from Mills College. She is a PLACES Fellow, a HOPE graduate, and a former board member for the Center for Diversity and the Environment.

Beyond serving as a leader in a nonprofit organization, she is Latina, bilingual and bicultural, bringing first-hand knowledge of the communities, initiatives, and programs ICF supports. ICF is an organization guided by purpose – to strengthen humanity with community. El Consejo está muy emocionado por trabajar de la mano con Marisa en la próxima etapa de nuestro crecimiento ”.

Como Presidenta y Directora Ejecutiva, Marisa liderará la evolución contínua del modelo de atención innovador de ICF y continuará la impecable trayectoria de impacto en las comunidades que atiende. También Marisa, trabajará en colaboración con un Consejo de 13 miembros, equipo operativo, donantes y los aliados en Estados Unidos, México y Latinoamérica.

Marisa ha trabajado en ICF en diversos roles. Anteriormente se desempeñó como  Vicepresidenta de Cultura e Impacto, supervisando el creciente portafolio de programas e iniciativas especiales de ICF. Antes de ocupar ese cargo, fue Oficial de Programas de Conservación Ambiental, liderando el portafolio de Medio Ambiente de ICF, el cual atiende la conservación marina y terrestre en la península de Baja California en México, las comunidades costeras del Golfo de California y el Caribe. Marisa se unió a ICF por primera vez en 2015, después de laborar 7 años en The San Diego Foundation. Allí, trabajó con líderes regionales para avanzar en los esfuerzos de conservación que aseguraron el acceso de todas las comunidades al aire, el agua y la naturaleza limpios, al tiempo que promovía la acción colaborativa sobre el cambio climático. Su trabajo en The San Diego Foundation condujo a la creación del informe de acceso ecológico Parques para Todos y la Iniciativa Abriendo el Aire Libre.

La pasión y entusiasmo de Marisa de apoyar la acción comunitaria a nivel local, regional y nacional se demuestra en sus otros roles de liderazgo en su distinguida carrera. Es cofundadora de Latina Giving Circle de San Diego; y actualmente se desempeña como miembro de la Junta Asesora del Nonprofit Institute en la Universidad de San Diego y es la presidenta entrante del Consejo Directivo de la Environmental Grantmaker Association. Marisa tiene una Maestría en Liderazgo y Administración de Organizaciones sin Fines de Lucro de la Universidad de San Diego y cuenta con una licenciatura en Antropología y Sociología de Mills College.

Más allá de servir como líder en una fundación comunitaria, como una mujer latina, bilingüe y bicultural, Marisa aporta conocimiento de primera mano de las comunidades, iniciativas y programas que ICF apoya.
